Yesterday

I knew after yesterday’s wod, I wasn’t going to make very many friends. It’s like shovelling your driveway, you come inside, take your boots off, and then you hear the snow plow go by. The first thing you want to do is swear. But you’re a CrossFitter now, and you realize that’s part of life, suck it up, put your boots back on and shovel again.

Yesterday’s workout wasn’t unusually difficult. I’m sure you can think of many other workouts that were much worse. It was more mental. The fact that you did all that work in the first round…and it didn’t count. Or did it?

After yesterday, you will all become more mentally fit. You will all develop a different character. You told me that you gave it your all, and then when I told you were doing it all over again, you showed me you had more. You dug deep, found that extra reserve, and blasted through it. So did you really give it your all in the first round? Was that the hardest you could have pushed? Maybe it was and that extra energy for round two came from anger and adrenaline. (I did hear a lot of cursing)

That workout is a reflection of game, sport and life. It’s about being ready for the unknown.Β It’s the overtime in a hockey game, the extra time in soccer, or the snow pile at the end of the driveway. How you choose to handle the situation is up to you. You can swear, get mad, stomp your feet. Or you can buck up and tackle the situation head on.

When you lay it all on the line, be prepared to do it again. You will become a better person in the end.

(For those that were not at the gym yesterday, after the members did the AMRAP 5 minute workout, I told them they had 1 minute of rest and they were going to do the workout all over again. However, their score was only what they get the second time around)

WOD – Pushup Bookends from Thursday

ABC Challenge will be held at 11am.

How'd you feel when you were told your first round didn't count?

  1. I wouldn’t say the first round didn’t count. Although my actual score didn’t count in the end, I worked my ass off, and that’s what counts for me.

I’ll remember yesterday morning for a long time. We all dropped to the floor in exhaustion after the WOD and Kevin said: “good job…now your cashout is that you’re doing it again. You’ve got 45 seconds!”
    “What….the… No…he must be kidding…”

I really didn’t think I could do it again, and I did. Yesterday was a mental victory!

Have a great weekend, fellow CrossFitters!

  2. As far as yesterday’s workout… well played Kevin, well played. This is the kind of stuff that will keep up on our toes, really reflects the “be ready for anything” mentally of Crossfit.

I surprised, I was 5 burpees and 3 lunges away from my first round score.

I’m really happy with that PR! Honestly I think yesterday’s WOD helped me improve my time today. Especially during heavy barbell WODs, I tend to stare at the bar and waste time just thinking about lifting it. Yesterday proved to me that I do have more in the tank. Just gotta get over that mental block and get the work done.

Kudos to Sonia, Joanna and Kevin! That ABC WOD looked really tough.

    1. Congrats on your PR and great post Jeff πŸ™‚ I face similar challenges, it’s always nice to know I’m not alone!

Great job on the ABC Wod Kevin, Sonia, & Joanna. I was really impressed with Jo’s effort on the 95# thrusters…you don’t weight much more than that girl! Nicely done.

This was a tough one, was nervous before starting it and really didn’t feel like it… but happy that I did it once I was done. Same goes for yesterday’s wod, it’s really tough during, but once you’re done, you feel you’ve accomplished something and that makes you really happy. Thanks Jeff, Marcel and Heidi, easier to do those tough wods when someone is encouraging you the whole way through. Great job Jo and Kevin!
