I knew after yesterday’s wod, I wasn’t going to make very many friends. It’s like shovelling your driveway, you come inside, take your boots off, and then you hear the snow plow go by. The first thing you want to do is swear. But you’re a CrossFitter now, and you realize that’s part of life, suck it up, put your boots back on and shovel again.
Yesterday’s workout wasn’t unusually difficult. I’m sure you can think of many other workouts that were much worse. It was more mental. The fact that you did all that work in the first round…and it didn’t count. Or did it?
After yesterday, you will all become more mentally fit. You will all develop a different character. You told me that you gave it your all, and then when I told you were doing it all over again, you showed me you had more. You dug deep, found that extra reserve, and blasted through it. So did you really give it your all in the first round? Was that the hardest you could have pushed? Maybe it was and that extra energy for round two came from anger and adrenaline. (I did hear a lot of cursing)
That workout is a reflection of game, sport and life. It’s about being ready for the unknown. It’s the overtime in a hockey game, the extra time in soccer, or the snow pile at the end of the driveway. How you choose to handle the situation is up to you. You can swear, get mad, stomp your feet. Or you can buck up and tackle the situation head on.
When you lay it all on the line, be prepared to do it again. You will become a better person in the end.(For those that were not at the gym yesterday, after the members did the AMRAP 5 minute workout, I told them they had 1 minute of rest and they were going to do the workout all over again. However, their score was only what they get the second time around)
