Which one are you?

When you’re trying to build a new habit, there are really two ways to go about it.

  1. You can start a new habit by adding something new or doing more of something. It might be drink more water, or add more veggies to your diet. This is called an addition habit.
  2. You can also stop a habit by stopping something or doing less of it. Possibly cut out bread, or quit drinking. This is a subtraction habit.

I subtracted a habit 19 months ago (I gave up drinking). It started as a challenge to see if I could do it for a month. Then I wanted to see if I could do it for two months. And now it’s not even a challenge anymore.
