Surf-ivor

Some of you have heard already…I’ll be participating in the Parlee Beach Surf-ivor competition this week (July 12-19). This year is their 10th anniversary and it’s a Fans vs Favorites theme. I won it back in 2006, so I’m going for a repeat!

A couple things you need to know.

1) If you need to cancel a class, please post it on the site. I won’t have internet access. Any urgent information can be sent to [email protected]

2) Feel free to come watch the live events. There are beach competitons every day at 2pm (on the left side near the restaurant). And there’s immunity challenges behind the info center at the park entrance every night at 7pm. Tribal council is 15 minutes after the evening event finishes.

3) There’s a Fan Favorite vote happening throughout the week on their Facebook page. I know how most of you click repeatedly on this site, so if you could do me a favour and vote for me (everyday we will have the link posted to where you need to vote), that would be awesome. Also, share the link with your friends. Thanks for helping me out!

Voting is now LIVE! Click on this link to go to Kevin’s picture, click LIKE to vote and then share with your friends!Β

Disappointed with my strength this week. Felt weak and did not lift my heaviest.

    WOD rx’d – 9:33 PR by roughly 10 seconds.
It was great chasing the boys on this WOD!

    1. You were right on my heals the whole time during the runs and I was pushing harder than I was comfortable with. You caught me on the pull ups I think.

      Nice Job.

    2. Fast! I was happy to see you this morning. I knew chasing you would get me a PR πŸ™‚

      1. And a big PR at that! Congrats again. Considering how we were both feeling…we kicked butt!

Had fun with this one, had to push as hard as I could on the running to keep up with gillyon, Jack and trent. Thanks for the push guys. I really had to give it everything on the pullup and kb’s.
Great work 6 amer’s. Great class Amanda!

  9. So pumped this morning!! I have not been able to perform any weight for the Overhead Squat since January after I hurt my shoulder at the Beatdown. It’s been 6 months and I finally did some!

  11. Question:

If someone is injured/hurt or simply not 100%, do they need to register for a class to come to the gym to go mobility or WU/ body weight exercises (Not the WOD)?

I am not 100% at the moment, yet, I want to do something light to stay mobile but not the WOD necessarily… Should I stay in the class OR should I take myself out to let someone else in?

In other words, I don’t want to take myself out of a class and sit at home because I am not comfortable with doing the WOD. But I’d like to come in, do Mob & WU and maybe a RunningWOD/Rowing or my 50 Burpees, etc..

    Thanks friends…

    1. The trainer running the class can certainly scale any weight and/or movement to work around what is bothering you, and still get a great workout in. It might not end up looking like the posted WOD but dont let that stop you from coming in.

Others coaches, care to chip in on this one?

      1. Unless it is your birthday! Then stay home if you were planning to attend the 4:15 class.…. πŸ˜‰

    12 Ring Rows

    Time 13:39

Almost to the point that I can complete 10 Pull ups with the black band…soon I will be able to ditch the ring rows and actually do the pull ups in the WODS!

  19. @ Home (noon)

    Volume – EMOTM 5 min
    – Push Press 95# = 15-15-15-15-15 = 75
    – Front Squat 135# = 6-6-6-6-6 = 30
    – Bench Press 155# = 7-6-2-1-2 = 18 (PR = 31)

Accumulate as much time in Plank in 5 min = 3m40s

Notes – Push Press reps were good, last set was getting rough. Front Squat is just a gasser for me, will jump to 7-8 reps next time, and guess shoulders were tired, having a hard time with bench, well below PR. Plank was good, 40 sec per minute, than held for all of the last minute, bit of a struggle to hold.

This was the first time I did a WOD without scaling any pullups down to ring rows! Admittedly, some of my last ones weren’t exactly pretty, I probably didn’t get entirely over the bar, but it’s a huge milestone, and next time I’ll kick ass at those pullups! Huge thanks to everyone for the encouragement!

  27. Strength: Push Jerks to 100# (only 4 sets)

    WOD rx’d: 13:22 – pr by 31 seconds.

Although I am pleased because I worked hard and didn’t take many breaks (well not as many as usual and tried to keep them short), I’m being greedy and I wish I had a better PR. I do know that a 31 second PR is nothing to complain about though, I am thankful to have one at all. My cardio is still the weakest link and it’s frustrating to no end.

    1. Here are your previous Helen times:

      14:51 Sep 11/12
      14:05 Mar 21/12
      14:24 Oct 3/11
      15:21 Apr 18/11 – Band for Pullups

Still making progress, it’s a marathon not a sprint remember?

    2. Though it’s a great PR, I understand your frustration. It’s like me and pull ups, they really don’t seem to get any better, and it drives me nuts. In the end, I always ask myself: Did you work hard? Di you have a good workout? And I can always answer yes, so that’s almost all that matters! Oh, and by the way, I was 45 seconds slower today, than last time, Grr!

Here is a little plug for regular MOBILITY work (not to be confused with stretching). Since the OLY Cert in early June I have been extra diligent with hip, shoulder and ankle mobility work. It has helped immensely. Although I still have a long way to go, my previous snatch (squat) weight was hovering around 65#. Anything heavier and I would land on my ass. I did 5 x80# tonight and felt strong and stable on every single one. I have not gained that much strength in a month, but I have gained a lot of mobility. I encourage everyone to pay attention to their mobility. It is a very important (and often neglected) part of Crossfit πŸ™‚
