In the CrossFit Level 1 course, there’s a lecture that covers Technique versus Intensity. The basic tenet is this – if you focus entirely on technique, you will be 100% safe, but yield very little results. If you focus only on intensity, the risk goes up, and so do the results. So, you need a balance. We need to find that sweet spot.
And that’s different for everyone. Someone who has never performed the snatch will lean a little more towards the technique side for a while. Someone that can snatch bodyweight with great form – it’s time to up the intensity.
I’ve used an example of a typist before.
Person A – types 120 words per minute, but makes 35 mistakes (high intensity, low technique)
Person B – types 20 words per minute, but makes 0 mistakes (low intensity, high technique)
Person C – types 85 words per minute, but makes 3 mistakes (pretty balanced with intensity and technique)
Try to be like Person C at the gym.
