January will now be known as Row-uary. We will be running a month-long event where teams will be rowing as meters as possible. There is a sign-up list on the front desk and teams will be created based on usual class times and levels of membership. And the best part – it’s FREE! For more information, see the rules sheet on the front desk or talk to a trainer. Let’s row in the New Year and get our cardio UP before the Games!

Deck of Death

  • Hearts = Burpees
  • DiamondsΒ = Situps
  • Clubs = Pullups
  • Spades = Squats
  • Jokers = 500m row

Start by drawing the top card and do that many reps of the suit. For example, if you draw the 9 of Hearts, you’re doing 9 burpees. Face cards are all worth 10. The goal is to get through the whole deck as fast as you can. There is a 25min time cap.

Compare to Dec.14/14

    Deck of death with ring rows: 200m row remaining (so close!)

    Thanks Shane! That was fun πŸ™‚

  2. Mob + WUx1 + 20 WB

    Deck of death: 2 Burpees left at the cap so I finished them.
    Total time 25:03

    I love deck of death… it’s the box of chocolates of crossfit πŸ™‚

  3. Open class: Deck of death
    53 reps left at the end.

    Great work ladies

    Love this one for all the surprises that happen and today didn’t disappoint – managed to pull the two jokers back-to-back on the 5th and 6th cards! Since I’ve already signed up for “Row- Uary” Can I count that km? (So funny, my autocorrect came up with “row-army”. Guess that works too!)

  4. Wod – Deck of Death Modified: Situps for 2 x flutter-kicks(2 count)

    53 reps remaining / 8 cards.

    I signed up for Row-uary. Going to get my Row on.

  5. One last reminder πŸ™‚

    Donations for our Christmas family accepted until this Sunday (Dec 13)

    You can either get a raffle ticket for our Christmas basket (under warm-up board) or just cash if you don’t want a ticket, e-transfer to [email protected] or bring in a non perishable food donation.

    I can’t tell you enough how much this mom appreciates everything we are doing for her and her boys. Delivery will be next week and I will try to post a picture of everything we were able to get for them before then.
    Thank you!

  6. Deck of Death as Rx’d

    First card was a Joker, then 3rd last card was a joker followed by 13 burpees.
    Thanks Steph!

  7. Rx’d

    Back to back rows were terrible. And a bunch of pull-ups at the very end was cruel. Pretty balanced deck other than that.

    I think this might be a PR for the rowing version.

    Thanks for the nooner Steph!

  8. Did open gym followed by WOD πŸ™‚

    Deck of Death (subbed ring rows) 25 min cap

  9. Made up an at home version because I couldn’t make it to the gym…

    hearts = burpees
    diamonds = situps
    clubs = pushups
    spades = squats
    joker = 100 double unders

    25 mins cap – 24 reps remaining
    I had just finished the second set of 100 DU at the cap, this was much harder than anticipated. Skipping in your living room is hard πŸ™‚

    WOD Rx
    78 reps left – (8 burpees, 8 pullups, 17 squats, and 45 situps)

    I’ll treat this as a PR
    had 102 reps left in 2013
    had 70 reps + 1 row left in 2012

  14. Deck Of Death
    this was my first time and I had 10 sit-ups and 4 burpees left that I didn’t finish. I’m damn proud of myself!!!
    ❀️- Burpees
    – sit ups
    ♣️- pull ups
    ♠️- squats
    – 500 m row

  15. Deck of Death scaled to ring rows

    Hearts = Burpees
    Diamonds = Situps
    Clubs = Ring rows
    Spades = Squats
    Jokers = 500m row

    21 reps left (very proud of this had seventy something left last year)

  16. MOB + WU x1 + 20 Wall balls @ 12#

    Did with ring rows and had 75 reps left at time cap

    Did the 15 minute version of this in prep class on July 14th
    > Completed 138 + 1 run
    > Split card pile at 15 minute cap today to see rep difference and it. Today was 181 for a difference of 42 reps

  17. Deck of Death

    Hearts = Burpees
    Diamonds = Situps
    Clubs = Pullups
    Spades = Squats
    Jokers = 500m row

    Rx’d 22:28

    Score: 22:28

  18. Open Gym

    Did the Deck of Death with Jenn C. & Remi and they crushed it!

    50 reps left at the cap.

    Really proud of all the great effort put in tonight by the 6 pm class.

    1. You did a great job Marcel. I love that quiet determination you have. You just start and keep going – no outs for you no matter what. Inspiring πŸ™‚ And Thank You for WODing with us πŸ™‚

  19. Deck of death.
    Drew both rows. 63 reps left at 25 min. time cap.
    Pull ups were a combination of pull ups & ring rows. Less than 5, tried to do pull ups. More than 5, I used the ring rows.

    Always enjoy D of D πŸ™‚

  20. WOD with ring rows
    24:23 (15 sec PR). Row 500m PR – 1:56 (that wasn’t the best idea, especially 3 cards in the deck).

  21. WOD Rx = -47 reps

    Probably the worst deck ever, everything in huge chunks. Started with all situps, then rows fairly close, then all burpees, with most of pullups squats remaining in the end. Deck probably was sorted, didn’t shuffle it well enough…

  22. Well, after 5 and a half years and many attempts at this wod, I finally finished it. Sort of. The very last card in the pile was a joker, and I started rowing with just 4 seconds left on the clock.

    WOD RX’d: 27:13
