Post-Hopper Post

The Hopper is a unique experience for me. It’s pretty much the only workout I ever get to do that I don’t program or know ahead of time. The unknown can be scary, but it’s also exciting. I’m very happy that many of you got to experience that with me on Saturday.

Getting 160+ athletes through two unknown workouts in a day is no small task. And none of it could have happened without all the help from our volunteers. You are the backbone of the Hopper. Thank you so much!

Congrats to all the competitors from CrossFit Moncton, especially the first timers. You showed up and threw down, conquering many fears and inspiring others. As Tara Betts would say, I love my Tribe!

  11. Great picture! We really are a tribe 🙂 The Hopper was so much fun and it ran so smoothly! Thanks to everyone involved. I was happy to have taken my kids along this time, I think the last competition they attended was my very first Hopper in 2011. They had as much fun as I did!

    You know, I left the gym feeling kind of bummed about this WOD. I really wanted that last rep. Then I got home and realized “Holy crap, I used 70# in a WOD with Front squats in it!!” I’ve never used 70# in a WOD before. So, I’m feeling pretty good about it now 🙂

    Hopper talk…..
    For everyone that didn’t sign up for the Hopper this year out of fear of “not being good enough” or “I’ll have to scale the WOD” or “I’ve not been crossfitiing long enough” or “competitions are only for real crossfitters”, well let me tell you something:

    You are a real crossfitter.
    Whether you just finished the Prep class or are a seasoned vet, you’re a crossfitter.
    Whether you scale every single WOD or are a fire breather, you’re a crossfitter.

    I signed up this year and if I can do it, ANYONE can do it. I don’t know if there’s anyone else in our box who’s as big a self doubting, anxiety ridden scaredeycat as I am. And you know what? The Hopper was amazing. Really and truly, I wouldn’t steer you wrong. It far surpassed any expectations I had. Everything ran so smoothly. The community support is off the charts. The energy is amazing and I guarantee you that you will surprise yourself.

      1. Thanks Kevin! I appreciate you cheering me on and encouraging me to keep going during the WOD. I found the front squats really heavy. I wanted to stop but you kept telling me to go. I wanted to whack you with the bar. But just a little bit 😉
