Olympic Lifting Review

At the Olympic lifting class on Tuesday, we discussed some terminology with regards to the clean and snatch. I think everyone could benefit from knowing what all those terms mean. Click the example to see the movement in action.

Hang – refers to the start position (dip between top of knees and mid-thigh). Example – Hang Clean

High Hang – refers to the start position (dip above mid-thigh). Example – High Hang Clean

Power – refers to the landing position (anything above a squat) Example – Power Clean

Squat – refers to the landing position (anything below a squat) Example – Squat Clean

Muscle – pulling a bar into position without landing (stiff legs at the top) Example – Muscle Clean

Split – refers to the landing position (when legs split into a lunge) – Example – Split Clean

With a 10 minute time cap, accumulate as much time as possible in a plank.

    Very happy with this, big PR for me! Very tough mentally.

    Big time mental blockage on the clean. Thinking too much about too much stuff. The olympic lift sessions should fix that.

    1. One Oly lift class has already helped me A LOT! I get into trouble when I “over think” the moves too. πŸ™‚ Still putting up some impressive weight. You must be doing something right…

    Had to find my inner peace for this one haha ! I sarted with a 1min plank and than two 30sec planks. I continued with 20sec planks for the remaining time except the last one that I was able to hold for 40sec… despite the fact that my entire body was shaking ! I only took 10sec break so I think I really pushed myself on this one πŸ™‚

  18. We have done a WOD with a 5 min plank before. And there were a few people that reached the 5 minutes unbroken. So I thought I’d step it up a bit and make it for 10 minutes. But I didn’t think that ANYONE would do that unbroken! I guess we’ll have it as 15 minutes next time!

  20. Did this one at home with a countdown timer and a stopwatch.

    WOD: 7:03 …definitely NOT unbroken. It wasn’t pretty but at least it was painful.

    Kevin helped me improve this lift. Arms and legs are straight and then flex the hips in to the shoulder shrug. I like whatever Ipad app it that was that allowed you to analyze and correct the lift.
