Happy Anniversary!

Today marks the 2 year anniversary of CrossFit Moncton. On this date in 2008, a group of strangers met at a local school playground, completely unaware of the workout they were about to complete. Oh, how far we’ve come since then…

There are a handful of people that remember what it was like working out at the park. It was rain or shine, hot or cold. And the bugs were hungry.

I remember loading up the back of the Element with equipment (sand-filled basketballs, dumbbells, dowels, etc) and my portable whiteboard. We would go through a group warm-up, work on a skill, and then hit up the WOD. There were no bands for pullups (so we jumped). No boxes for box jumps (so we used benches). No bars with weights (so we used sticks). But anyone that was there would agree…it was still hard!

If you haven’t seen it yet, take a moment to read The Story of CrossFit Moncton.

To celebrate the 2 years of CrossFit Moncton, the workout on Saturday, July 10th, will be held at Queen Elizabeth School playground at 10am. The workout will be announced upon arrival. If registration is full, come anyway!

  3. Happy Anniversary Kevin! What an amazing trip- congrats on your success so far (with more to come no doubt) !

  4. Congrats on your 2 year anniversary! the ‘good ole days’ of bench jumps and gravel sit ups were fun!

Yesterday i competed in my first triathlon – and did the olympic distance
38:25- 1500m swim (no wetsuits permitted due to water temp)
    1:22:03- 40km bike
    52:17- 10km run

    total time 2:57:31

i was hoping to be sub 3 hours so i was very happy! especially pleased about my run – hadn’t done a 10km run since jan 09, and had about a 5 min PR yesterday! getting out of the water i had sea legs for a good 5 km into the bike, equilibrium was really off. what a crazy sport – but just when you had enough of one activity you got to do another, and another.

congrats to janine (bathurst) and heidi (f’ton) on their duathlons! and thanks so much for the cheers jane and anna, you guys were keeping me going to the finish!

    1. Girl, you are amazing! Just the training alone for a triathlon would terrify me. Way to go on your 10k PR. 🙂

      1. thanks Gillyon.

to be honest i’ve not been training the ‘triathlon’ way though. if i was i’d be in the pool 3-4 times a week, running 10ks a few times a week and riding 60+ kms a few times a week, and no strength training.

instead in the past few months i’ve been CFing 3 times a week, swam only 2 times in last month, run pretty much only during CF WODS and bike 2, maybe 3 times a week, but nothing more than 40km lately.

sure i might be faster if i was sport specific, but i’d probably have training specific injuries by now too. i like having the strength/diversity from CF to compliment the sport.

  5. Awesome Video Kevin. You must see a very big difference in two years and should be very proud of yourself!!

    1. I thought it was great too! Congrats Kevin, Can’t wait to see what happens in the next two years…

Congrats Kevin on 2 years of awesome growth. I remember that day when I was in charge of lunch and fed everyone all the wrong stuff, burgers on buns and cake. Now I would know better. Watching people that day, I said I wouold never do that. Never say never. You’ve done a super job and should be very proud of your accomplishment. I am sure there is more to come.

  12. if anyone is thinking of canceling their 6am tomorrow i’ll take it instead of the 7am i have booked.

kevin, i was trying to book 415 on wednesday and it won’t let me, can you hook me up?

    1. Hey Krista, I can switch with you… I have a 6am and can go to either one in the morning… way to rock these races!

      1. shoot johan, i just checked the site now and it’s WAY past my bedtime for getting up for a 6am. i think it best if we keep with the original schedule. i hope you get this in time.

      2. on second thought, i’ll set the alarm for the 6am class and see if you’ve replied if you saw this tonight or not. let me know which you’d like to do, the 6 or the 7am.

i do appreciate the offer! it does make getting to work more manageable.

  13. Hey Kevin, I won’t be able to come to the 630 tonight either… something has come up…..I am so sorry for cancelling twice in 1 day!

  18. Way to go on 2 years in Kevin! The video is great…not many faces I recognized…you’ve really grown since then. So glad to have a CrossFit gym in Moncton….what I’m loosing on morning sleep-ins, I’m gaining in fitness. I never dreamed I would be up at 5:30 a.m. to go to the gym, but it’s all good. Kevin… two years is a great accomplishment and hope you’re just getting started… the amazing people you’re attracting to your gym is to no coinsidence, and best of all it comes naturally to ya… keep doing what you do… you’re changing people in many great ways.

  31. Greetings from London!

Congrats on two years Kevin!! My hat’s off to you! You’ve grown a really great gym there in Moncton which could be easily seen in the short time I was there! More important than a gym you’ve created an outstanding community. It’s funny I still consider myself to be with CF Moncton!

    CFWU x 2
    Push Press x 3 95/105/115/125/135(PR)

    3 Rounds:
    15 Power Snatches (45#)
35 Double Unders (new consecutive DU PR @ 6)

I could have really used the power snatch practice, then I would have felt safer with more weight. The run was outdoors in 31 degrees with humidex of 42… hot damn hot….

Thanks again for all your great work Kevin

  32. Great PR’s Scott! Those DU’s can be a SOB!
    Keep at it!
I thought we sweated a lot today. You did this in 42 degree weather!? Holy Hanna!, You must have weighted 5lbs less when you were done. *hehe*
Great work and great to hear from you!

  33. Congrats CF Mct on two years!!!
Wishing the gym and the community within it much success and many more PRs!!

    Cheers! :0)
