    1. Grandfather – Captain Ben DeWolfe – North Shore Regiment
Ben served in England, Germany, France, and Holland in the North Shore Regiment. He deployed on D-Day on Juno beach. Ben survived WWII, he was wounded but eventually returned home and lived to the age of 86…neither my father nor I ever got a real story out of him about his time in Europe. My son never met his great-grandfather, but Adam asked me today if he could wear a poppy for Grampy Ben…it was a proud moment.

Here is some famous D-day footage of the North Shore Regiment landing on Juno beach.

  5. I don’t have much to post, other than the fact I showed up today🙂
When your 115# bench press is demoted, due to injury, to a 15# L arm Press and a 20# R arm Press, it’s a humbling affair.

QOD: I’ve had many relatives who went to war. My grandparents generation truly was the “Greatest Generation”. Many grew up in a level of poverty that is so far removed from anything we’ve experienced in our lifetime. And when the world needed them, there was no hesitation. They went to war for us and sacrificed even more.

Of all my relatives, including a great uncle who shot down a German plane in a dogfight, the story closest to my heart is that of my grandmother’s youngest brother, Frederick Francis Currie, who lied about his age to enlist. He was a gunner on a tank. Part of the 2nd Armoured Brigade Fort Garry Horse. He paid the ultimate price in The Battle for Normandy in 1944, on a day named “The disaster of July 25th”. It was the bloodiest day of the war, second only to Dieppe, with 1500 casualties. My great uncle was only 20yrs old.
    20.
Still a baby. His life hadn’t even begun yet.
It’s hard to wrap my head around.
Thank you doesn’t even seem good enough, for a loss like that, so I will be going to the gym tomorrow, with my gimpy injuries, to do the Fallen WOD in honour of his sacrifice. I hope you will be there too❤️

  15. Do you have any relatives that fought in a war? Tell us a bit about their story.
My grandfather served in the WW2 with the Carleton York Regiment. He never told us many details, except that he was wounded in action and instead of returning home, he traveled delivering letters to the soldiers.. My sisters and I took turns for years traveling around New Brunswick to their yearly reunions. It was the only time I ever saw him smoke (he smoked a lot). I didn’t clue in until years later that his nick name of ‘ Crip ‘ came from his war buddies, it was short for ‘cripple’ . He wore that name with pride..
