Deck of Death

This is a fan favourite! You have the option today to run or row. There’s a better chance of finishing the deck if you opt for the runs.

Hearts = Burpees
Diamonds = Situps
Clubs = Pullups
Spades = Squats
Jokers = 400m Run/500m Row

Start by drawing the top card and do that many reps of the suit. For example, if you draw the 9 of Hearts, you’re doing 9 burpees. Face cards are all worth 10. The goal is to get through the whole deck as fast as you can. There is a 25min time cap.

Compare to Dec.10/15

  1. Patrick…my math is terrible. Total of 340 reps in the deck + 2 Jokers.

    MOB + WU + 10 Burpees, 10 Squats, 10 Ring Rows, 10 Situps

    Group MOB

    Deck of Death
    TOTAL: 228 Reps + 400m Run

  2. WU – half ass today
    Mob all lacrosse ball on lower legs painful

    Hearts = Burpees
    Diamonds = Situps
    Clubs = Pullups (scaled to ring row )
    Spades = Squats
    Jokers = 400m Run/500m

    Time: 23:56 forgot my book think this was it.
    800 m run cash out thanks Shannon and Guy

    Thanks Patrick for the class at the start did not think it was even possible to finish!

  3. Deck of Death
    w/ 400m run for jokers

    time = 20:05

    My previous time was 21:55 but with rowing. The running saved some time no doubt, even if they were my very first 2 cards!!
    Thanks for the fun class Patrick! 🙂

    1. Great improvement on time Maria WOW. I also had a run at start Was good but also had a run with about 3 cards left in the deck that was very slow and hard to do.

  4. Mobility
    WU x 1 (10 Burpees, 10 pull-ups, 10 squats, 10 sit-ups)

    WOD: Deck of Death
    Hearts = Burpees
    Diamonds = Sit-ups
    Clubs = Pull-ups
    Spades = Squats
    Jokers = 400m Run

    Total: 10 reps left at time cap. (4 Burpees left and 6 pull-ups for the next card.)
    First time doing this. I liked it. Pull-ups definitely slowed me down after 70 reps yesterday 🙁

    Thanks Patrick. Great work everyone!

    1. So close, next time you’ll get it! Pretty sure if yesterday wasn’t a pullup fest you would have completed the deck!

  5. Deck of death
    With 400 m runs

    Cards remaining ace,2,3,7,8,10 so 31 reps left on the board. Mixed strict pull ups with ring rows about equally
    Completed 48 cards including jokers. Last time completed 32 cards and no jokers

    I will finish that deck next time
    Nice job for those that complete it. It is averaging 30 sec per card and for those that don’t complete deck. Also well done. It’s a lot of moving

  6. I really wanted to come in at 6 am and do this but when I went to registrer (at 5:30) I saw 20 people registered!!! Like WHAAAAAT?! Better start registering in advance 🙂

    So I went for a 3k run with the doggies. Time was 22:43 – I was expecting more than that since my mile run a couple weeks ago was over 12 mins. Plus this was at Mapleton park which means a few (small) hills. Happy with this 🙂

    Love this Wod!
    Great class Maria and great work 6 amer’s!!!

    1. Haha, Maria. Keyboard is programmed for regular words. I guess it put you in and I didn’t even notice…. Great class Patrick!!! Lol

  8. MOB + WU + 10 Burpees, 10 Squats, 10 Ring Rows, 10 Situps

    Group MOB

    Deck of Death

    TOTAL: 286 Reps + 2 x 400m Run

    My math was off. I counted the total reps off of my playing cards, then the number of reps remaining and it didn’t equal 340. Because the 54 remaining reps were easier to count, I used that as my known entity! In any case, great workout and really fun.

    1. Good job Jackie. I am somewhat numerically challenged so sorry I can not help with any math over single didgit! 🙂

  9. Mobility and Wu x 1, group mobility and Wu

    Wod (Deck of Death)
    25 burpees short at cap.

    I got hit with a string of Pullups which slowed me down. Not a PR but still love this WOD

  10. DECK OF DEATH!
    Movements Rx’d
    For Joker did 200m Sandbag Run + 1 Wall Climb + 1 Rope Climb

    TIME: 24:06
    Cards were actually spread out OK this time.
    Nice work Nooners!

  11. Deck of Deaaaaaath!

    66 reps remain at time cap.

    Highlights from this time through – first time completing all of one movement (squats), got a big chunk of high rep squats and burpees so my legs felt GREAT when it came time to run…

    Oh and got both Jokers back to back in the last 1/4 of the deck. Yay.

    Awesome job nooners!

  12. Deck of death with ring rows and rowing: 22:11

    Last time, had 200m or so left at the cap.

    Thanks Patrick!

  19. Deck of Death
    At 23:15 I drew my final card, which was the 400 m run, so clock ran out while I was running.

    Super happy about this. I;ve done this WOD several times and this is as close as I’ve ever come to completing the deck. Contributing factors to my progress: 1) Scaled pull ups to ring rows (I tore my hands during yesterday’s pull up fiasco, so I was not going near the bar today….. wah! wah! wah! 2) I did 400 m runs, instead of rowing….I’m pretty sure this is faster 3) I had a REALLY well shuffled deck today, as all movement were quite nicely distributed.

    Note to self for next time to track my progress:
    Last time I did this WOD(Dec 2015) I rowed and for Pull ups over 5 reps, I did ring rows, and for 5 & under I did pull ups. Total of 63 reps left

    Once again, a fun one. One of my fav’s!

  20. Scaled
    Ring rows
    400m run

    1st and last card were the jokers, I liked it, I left for the run at 23:01, I came back around 25:05 closest I have ever been on finishing on time, last time 35 reps left + joker, happy with my results, big class this morning 😉

  21. Paquet de cartes
    Pull ups
    Burpees
    Situps
    Squats
    Jokers: 400 m course
    Cap à 25 min
    16 reps left (6 pullups, 2 squats and 8 situps)

    Fun!!

  22. Hearts = Burpees
    Diamonds = Situps
    Clubs = Ring rows
    Spades = Squats
    Jokers = 400m Run

    43 reps remaining

  23. Wod with ring rows and 500m row. Left at the cap was 146 reps. Damn burpees got me good and the jokers

  24. So close! Had 7 squats and 460m row left at the time cap.
    Rowed for the jokers, rings rows for the pull up.

  25. Terri-Lynn Smith

    Deack of death

    First time doing this wod with pullups.
    300m row and 98 reps remaining.

    When I woke up this morning, it was confirmed that I should have scaled the situps. Injured my hip flexor earlier in the week and all those situps did not help things. I did row with just legs and arms because the hip extension part hurt, and I tore my hand very early because I seemed to get all my pullups together at the beginning.

    * Things will go much better next time. 🙂

  26. Warm up and mob x1 plus
    10 burpees
    10 Situps
    10 pushups
    10 squats

    Group mob

    Deck of death
    Joker = 400m run
    83 reps left at 25 min time cap.

    Thanks Pat for the class. I will do better next time.
