This week, we’re averaging well over 1000 hits a day. I know a lot of members hit the refresh button often, but in those thousands, there are a lot of people that have never stepped inside the walls of CrossFit Moncton. Just looking at the workouts can be scary, but not everyone starts with doing things as prescribed. For instance, today we have 24 inch box jumps. That can be scaled to as low as 1 inch. And the best part of CrossFit Moncton – it doesn’t matter if you’re jumping onto a 1 inch plate or a 24 inch box, everyone is going to cheer and encourage you either way.

Here is today’s question of the day for current members. Hopefully it will help ease the nerves or reduce the anxiety that potential members may have.

In your own words, describe the atmosphere at CrossFit Moncton.

If you’ve never been in to try CrossFit Moncton, please read through the comments.

  1. So many good things to say, but to sum up, I go as much for the people/positive energy as for the workouts. I feel more relaxed as soon as I step in the door. Today is my first day back after a week and I’ve gone through a bit of withdrawal–will probably pay the price! Beginners, don’t be intimidated. I am definitely a “work in progress”–I have to scale a lot of the work outs–but I have never felt so supported. It’s inspiring to work out wit super-fit people, not intimidating.

    WOD (modified)
    AMRAP in 12 min
    15 KB deadlifts (70#)
    20 Box Jumps (24/20″)
    30 Double Unders

    5 round + 2 box jumps

  3. WU x2
    Shoulder Press x1
    50 60 65 75 80 (match PR)

    AMRAP 12 Mins
    15 SDHP 45#
20 Box jumps – Mod. to Step ups for my gimpy foot
30 Double unders – Mod. to 1 foot skips for my gimpy foot

    5 Rounds + 20 Box/Step Jumps/Ups

When I did this workout in Toronto I got 4 + 4 SDHP even though I had to modify it today I still think I would have got a PR because the step ups and 1 foot jumps were slower than I would have been at the Rx movements. It was also 40 degrees in TO at the time so being able to breathe today helped too 🙂

We have a phenomenal group of people at our gym, we are lucky. There is not one person that would criticize or intimidate. Everyone is encouraging and good spirited. From a trainer view I get to see people start from their first step into the gym and watch them grow and improve in a consistently positive environment surrounded by new friends. It’s great to see current members always introduce themselves to the new ones, welcome them and congratulate them on their first workout. We have built something special within our walls and I’m happy to be a part of it.

  6. The atmosphere at CFM…hmmmmm…..

Darrell always tells me I can’t do pullups.
Martine is always straightening up after me.
Marco tells me to f*#k off.
Guy constantly makes inappropriate sexual comments about me.
Justin won’t even talk to me.
And last but not least, Kevin tells me I’m a ray of sunshine…that burns his eyes.

Bahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha gurgle snort choke gasp spew chuckle gfaw titter cackle wheeze tee hee hee hee hee hee………………….I’m just sayin’.

    I love you guys! <3

    1. LOL Jane!! Great post.
“Justin won’t even talk to me”. LOL Don’t worry, he doesn’t talk to any of us.

  7. So many things to say about CF Moncton, but if I’m just to talk about the atmosphere: Welcoming, supportive, inspiring, encouraging, non judgmental, friendly, motivating, accepting. There’s a sense of togetherness…you never feel that you’re alone in anything. Even if you finish last (which I do a lot), there’s always someone waiting at the end to tell you that you did a good job.
And like John mentioned… the 6am class have become like family. I look forward to seeing them all every morning to bleed, sweat, cry and swear with them. (well it’s usually just me who cries…but you get my drift) 😉

  8. Heather (Mum)

As the senior (by far) member of Crossfit Moncton, I have this to say. If I can do it absolutely anyone can. When I first came to CFMoncton, I was unable to do any move. Everythiing was scaled way down for me. Now I am addicted. You won’t find support and encouragement anywhere else that compares to this gym. Come on in – give it a try.

  9. I’ve been training at Crossfit now for 3 months and one of the main reasons I’m still here is because the atmosphere is soo great. Every workout is a very unique, motivating, supportive, challenging, and humbling experience. Thanks to everyone who has helped and supported me along the way. I am stronger person today because of Crossfit Moncton. Thanks!

  11. Crossfit is…

Challenging workouts scaled to your level, lots of fun, addictive, a cacophony of support, very rewarding, tons of cool people, a continuous learning process.

Plus there’s a dog trained to check up on you after youre done the workout and youre resting on the floor in a pool of sweat. How great is that?

      1. cophony |kəˈkäfənē|
        noun ( pl. -nies)

a harsh, discordant mixture of sounds : a cacophony of deafening alarm bells | figurative a cacophony of architectural styles | songs of unrelieved cacophony.

  12. “Are you addicted yet?”: A question often posed to new members after a WOD or two….

As a relative newcomer to CFM I can answer that question with an emphatic “YES”….but its not because of the workouts – some of them I truly love to hate! Its not for the PRs – although they are motivating. Its certainly not for the blood, sweat or tears (but it is fun to see some of the boys cry…LOL).

I am addicted to the people. The friendships. The support. The coaching. The cheering (and the being cheered for). Words of encouragement. High-fives. “TWSS”…. 😉

I won’t lie. As someone who has spent a few years (make that decades – EEK!) in a gym, I was intimidated like crazy on my first day…..for about 5 minutes. If you are new to CFM or thinking about joining, you will love it here. You have a ‘family’ here to push you, pull you, swear with you, and celebrate with you….I “heart” my CFM family.

  13. Still being new to crossfit, i find the differences between here and your “normal” gym incredible.. without even mentioning the awesome workouts, its the people that make the difference.. this group atmosphere not only makes it more enjoyable because its more like working out with a group of friends , but it also helps you find out what youre actually capable of. if you think youve hit your limits, theres people behind you pushing and supporting you the entire time, no matter your skill set.. the workouts are kickass, the results are real, but its the people bringing me hooked

  16. Superb atmosphere at CrossFit Moncton. It’s what keeps me going. One big happy, positive family. Sure miss not being there of late. Hope to see you all soon.

  17. The atmosphere at Crossfit is Awesome!! Everybody is sooo friendly. There’s always somebody cheering you on! I would never push myself like that at any other gym. Crossfit taught me to never give up and I do carry that mindset outside if the gym. I started Crossfit 6 weeks after delivering my baby girl and the doctor/physio restricted me with quit a few movements. Kevin was able to scale everything to the level I needed to be. So if I can do this anybody can 🙂

  18. Denise MacEachern

I hate it, but I’m addicted. I hate it because I’m pushed–no one let’s me take a pass. I’m addicted because I want to do better.

    Great job 4:15 p.m. crew!

I have to go walk Sadie and Wallie, but I will respond to the question of the day later.

  23. WOD (Rx’d) —> 4 Rounds + 15 SDHP

Box Jumps are still a struggle for me with no rebound.

… the atmosphere at CrossFit Moncton? You mean that shady looking old garage with the windows blacked out? Don’t judge a book by its cover! Once inside you’ll find an amazing group of people pushing as hard as they can on the new challenge they face each day. It’s a community fuelled by support for each other and the understanding that every single person is giving it all they have regardless of their abilities. We’re a group of like minded friends pushing each other towards continual improvement each and every day. Thank you CrossFit Moncton!

I think I have 195 in me, maybe even 200 but Kevin convinced me not to be greedy. 🙂

    WOD: 5 rounds + 8 SDHP

I could use some more Corinna style DU skill.

  27. The gym atmosphere…EXTREME! extremely supportive, extremely welcoming, extremely challenging, and extremely FUN! Some works outs I modify, some I don’t. In either case, almost always leave with a sense of accomplishment, in that “Wow, I did it”. And the results to your fitness level & body are real and lasting.

  28. -Addicted to the greetings and smiles on arrival especialy when you dont want to be there.
-Love the shared anxiety seconds before the WOD.
-Amazed at the superhuman feat’s attained by seemingly common people(maybe this place is super hero school ?).
-Knowing that Everyone leaves everything they’ve got on the bar bring’s us together in indescribable ways.

    Practiced SDHP instead of Deadlift

  30. When I talk about Crossfit with my friends (which apparently is all the time) I never refer to it as a “gym”. I guess today I figured out why; Crossfit is like the family you wish you had! Sure the exercise is tough and amazing and effective, but it’s the fact that everyone truly gets what you’re doing and supports you in a thousand ways that makes it something uniquely more than just a “gym”.

    Crossfit = Addictive adrenaline!

  33. First of all Crossfit is addictive. For the “newbie” to CF Moncton there is absolutely no reason to be intimidated. Egos are definitely checked at the door; it doesn’t matter if a workout is done as Rx’d or scaled — everyone gives it there all and the first to finish a workout is the first to start cheering others on until everyone is done! What you will get is positive feedback and encouragement every time you step into our “community”.

  34. If there was a like button for all the posts, I’d be clicking them all.

Great responses! Very happy to be a part of this community.

  35. Becoming a member at Cross Fit Moncton is one of the best decisions that I have ever made. The program is absolutely addictive and if you put forth the time and effort, you will see amazing changes to your body, mind and soul. I joined Cross Fit Moncton last April; one year later I still get excited every single day about going on line and checking to see what the workout of the day is going to be!! I have met a lot of wonderful people since last year. The diversity of the work-outs each and every day is one of the main reasons in my opinion, for the success of the program. MONOTONY is not a word that exist in the Cross Fit world!! I have been a member at many gyms; in fact, I currently spin at the Y a few days a week, but I do not get the warm welcome nor the amazing support at the Y that I get at Cross Fit Moncton. I love the people and the contagious energy! The small size classes allow for frequent feed-back/individual coaching which does not happen in any other gym where I have been a member. I love the fact there are always a few members in each class that push me beyond my limits!! If you truly want results; Cross Fit Moncton is the gym for you!

  36. Crossfit Moncton is a place where you see the very best in people. With some good old fashion hard work, some determination, and a whole lot of cheering from the rest of us, you’ll see the best in yourself too.
