  1. Should I try for Rx or scale?

I expect to get that question all morning, so here’s my answer.

If you buy a movie ticket, but I tell you what movie you’re going to watch, that isn’t fair. You paid to be a part of the CrossFit Open, so you decide what you want to do with your ticket.

However, before you select a movie, you sometimes check out what the critics think. So here’s my critical review:

If chest to bar pull-ups aren’t a problem, and you have a chance to make it into the 2nd or 3rd set, then going Rx is possible. If you could only do the 1st round, and have no chance making it to the 2nd, scale for sure. Scaling also opens the door to doing a power snatch followed by an overhead squat, so if squat snatching is foreign to you, I’d highly recommend scaling to keep you (and everyone around you) safe.

You may be thinking, I can’t even do a jumping pullup, what am I going to do? Just like in classes, we can scale the workout to your ability. If you signed up for the CrossFit Open, we have to hold you to the standards they set. But making sure you get a safe and effective workout is OUR priority.

As always, if you have any question, please ask a coach.

    1. This was definitely a great workout as a scaled option. Those snatches feel way heavier when winded!

  2. Warm up and Mobility

    17.3
    Masters Scaled
    43 Reps

Could snatch 55 no problem, but squatting with it was compromising my shoulder.

Have fun tonight!! Go Red Team. 🙂

  3. 17.3 scaled
    144 reps on sheet.
I realised after I got home and looked at the score sheet from the CrossFit site that 144 was at the last 115# snatch so my score should be 154 for the 10 jumping pull-ups.
But for the Open sheet I signed 144 😛

Great work Jackie, Bob and Shawn!
    Thanks coach Mario!

    1. Who was your judge for Pete’s sake? Sorry about that Gabe. I was just so impressed with your performance…the math escaped me.

  4. Francis Landry

    17.3 Rx
    total = 45 reps
my goal was to get at least 1 squat snatch at 135#, got 2!

    go team blue!

  5. 17.3 scaled
23 reps an empty barbell slammed on my shin.
    Ice pack and couch now.
    Disappointed.

  6. 17.3 scaled
1st time in the squat snatch did as well as I thought but a bit disappointed that I wasted time on the first bar…should have killed it.
I would do this one again 🙂
    60 reps
Thank you Amanda for the judge support!
    Go team orange!

  7. 17.3 RX
    39 reps

Happy with that 🙂 Was really nervous about trying to do C2B but got a lot more than I thought!!

Thanks Gabe! And thanks for the cheers!

  8. 58 reps RX’d
All things considering, that was the best I could do and was happy for the score. First rep @95 in the warm up room was a complete disaster to no failed reps in the wod. (1 no rep on c2b)

  9. 17.3 Scaled – 130 reps

Pretty pleased, except for losing to Heidi again, after a week off and fighting a cold. Thanks for judging Jeff and thanks Amanda for changing weights. Big shout out to Shane for opening the gym early.

  10. 17.3 Scaled
    Prior to 8:00, complete:
    3 rounds of:
    6 jumping chin-over-bar pull-ups
    6 squat snatches, 35 lb.
    Then, 3 rounds of:
    7 jumping chin-over-bar pull-ups
    5 squat snatches, 55 lb.
*Prior to 12:00, complete 3 rounds of:
    8 jumping chin-over-bar pull-ups
    4 squat snatches, 65 lb.
*Prior to 16:00, complete 3 rounds of:
    9 jumping chin-over-bar pull-ups
    3 squat snatches, 75 lb.

Completed 136 Reps, at the 16:00 minute mark, which is 2 completed rounds of 75# snatches + 4 Jumping pull ups.

Pretty happy with that, since 75# is my max snatch. Thanks to Amanda for coaching me through it and telling me to get under the bar, after failing my 1st attempt at 75#. Fun Sunday morning. Great WOD to come back to after being away for the past week!

  11. 17.3 scaled
    43 reps

Got a 55# power snatch + ohs just over the 8 min time cap. Pretty tickled with this one, didn’t think I could do it!

  12. Scaled – 179 reps

Super pumped about the 95# snatches! They felt solid. A little disappointed about not being able to try 105 but still satisfied! Fun Sunday at the gym!
