I can’t believe it’s been 11 years to the day since I did my first CrossFit workout. It was the Filthy 50’s, and I couldn’t walk properly for a week. I was young and inexperienced, and I didn’t know what proper scaling looked like.
Trust me when I say I’ve made all the mistakes. I’ve done different diets, strength cycles, movement progressions – I have a pretty good idea of what works and what doesn’t. And yet, I’m still learning. Having attended over 20 seminars/certifications, I’m still thirsty for knowledge after all these years. I want to ensure that our members get the very best from me. In fact, I’m currently enrolled in two courses right now.
So please use me. I know we have members that love to ask questions. I’m here to serve, so please use me if you need help. Whether it’s a goal, nutrition counselling, or you just want to be better at a particular movement, please reach out.
We’ve been adding quite a few to the 500 Club, and we plan to add at least 4 more to the 1000 Club before the end of the year. We have some of the most dedicated members of any CrossFit gym in Atlantic Canada. I’m so proud of our members who stick with it.
I have my reasons for sticking with CrossFit for this long. If you’re in the 500 or 1000 Club, please let us know in the comments what keeps you coming back. I’m sure our up-and-comers would love to hear it.
NOTE – we will be sticking to our class limit of 14. Register soon because classes will fill up.

Congrats Kevin+Jo and CFM (could all be one word) for the 11 years! That’s amazing yet not surprising since you are such great ambassadors of CrossFit and healthy inspiring lifestyles. You keep the spirit of this amazing system, culture, sport, whatever you want to call it, alive and stoked. Which is part of the reason I’m still in it. I keep coming back because of the results of course, not just my results but the results of the gym and it’s people as a whole (including it’s own growth and evolution). I keep coming cause it’s a new workout every day and there are always skills to work on and no matter how good you get there is always something else to strive for. I keep coming back cause I’m in the best shape of my life thanks to it. I keep coming back cause it isn’t hard on the head, it’s fun, the members and coaches are great! The relationships I’ve made at CFM are some of the healthiest I’ve made anywhere! Each and everyone of you have inspiring stories to share! As I approach 4 years and 700+ classes I can honestly say I can’t imagine my life without it and I’m looking forward to many more years! See you on the rubber mats soon!
Where did that dust come from?!
We love having you and your family part of the the CFM Tribe. Thank you so much for being a wonderful part of it.
Today will be my 1,182nd class.
I’m not as consistent as I once was and I don’t get as many PR’s these days (although they do happen from time to time) but I still love it, and I keep coming back so I that I can be independent for as long as possible. A few lessons in my life have taught me that I’m the only one who can & will take care of me and my health.. and I don’t have kids who can look after me in my old age so I need to take care of my body. The heavy squats and heavy deadlifts and burpees and all the other things we do will make my body work without the need of any assistance for a looooonnnnggggg time. So I will keep showing up to do them, no matter what else may be falling apart or blowing up around me. 🙂
It was fun to do this one again. I chose to do it via the 50s Last year I was 13 singles shy of finishing. This year I was 40 singles shy of finishing in the time cap so just means I need to work harder for next year and as of tommorrow I will have 2 years dedicated to crossfit as my outlet from work, life , and responsibility. It’s been and will continue to be a blast.

…from what I could find on the site, this was my first time doing this. Did 30s when I was brand new in 2014.
I was lucky enough to workout with the birthday boy and anniversary owner for my first wod since August – even though they left me in the dust and I almost died. But hey, great to back ✌🏼
Love reading all the comments and chatting with lots of members today. We all have a story of how we started. Who introduced us. What got us hooked. And they’re all different.
There was no way I could have ever known what CrossFit, and more specifically, CFM would mean to me and others. It’s changed my life. In fact, it’s given me a life. One that I’m very proud of and happy to share with my family. I know for a fact that it’s saved people’s lives. It’s prevented people from taking medications or significantly reduced them. Even babies have been made because of the connections from people at the gym.
CFM is more than just a business to me. It’s a living, breathing thing. I’m in not done investing my blood, sweat, and tears into it. I can’t wait to see where the next 11 years takes it.
Thank you to every member that’s been a part of this amazing journey.

Got to 19 burpees RX. I lost my cardio somewhere in the past year. I still finished the WOD after the time cap and would like to thank the members that cheered me on when I was looking at the wall ball instead of using it 🙂

Congratulations Kevin on 11 years!
I attended my 100th class a couple weeks ago. I’m proud of that. I’m glad I decided to join CFM back in May and stuck to it. I’m seeing progress and I just feel great overall. Although some days I don’t always feel like going to the gym for whatever reason, I tell myself I GET to workout. And that push I get from the coaches and other members at CFM motivates me that much more.
That being said, for my 1st attempt at ‘Fifty 50’s’, I subbed to ‘Freaking 40s’!
For time:
50 Box jump, 24″
50 Jumping pull-ups (forearm level)
50 Kettlebell swings, 1 pood
Walking Lunge, 50 steps

50 Burpees
50 Double unders (singles 2x)

Next year, I’m doing 50s!
Filthy 50’s
50 box jump 20″
50 jumping pull ups
50 dumbell presses @ 15# in each hand (subbed out KBS due to back)
50 walking lunges

50 push press 35#
50 good mornings 35# (dropped weight for back)
50 wall balls 10#
50 burpees
50 DU’s

I have done this WOD many times at Rx’d weights, but always at 40 reps. Since I wasn’t doing KBS & wasn’t comfortable with 45# good mornings, I decided to try the full 50 reps to see how it went. Just happy to have finished (but scaling to knee raises was also definite factor)
I always like this one in a weird way. Burpees & wall ball were gross!

Thanks for all the compassion and commitment you put into this place and us.
I love ya’s a whole bunch Team Wood. Xo
happy 11th CF anniversary Kevin!
I’m sad that I’m missing today’s WOD…feeling under the weather, can’t seem to shake off this cold.
I’m at 1108 classes – In short, I keep on coming back because Crossfit works and because CFM is the best gym around. I’m in the best shape of my life because of CF and I hope to continue this sport for decades to come. I love how every WOD is different…I never get bored. I love the feeling of nervousness before each WOD and the feeling of dying/laying on the floor gasping for air after most WODs. I really enjoy the atmosphere at CFM, everybody is soo nice, helpful, and supportive.
.
This was my first WOD as well, one year ago today. I had done the 30’s and quickly learned that I was not quite as in good shape as I thought I was..
I almost did the 30’s today to compare, but in true Crossfit fashion went for the 50’s for the extra challenge.

Wod rx’d 22:34
I know I have done this before but I couldn’t find a time to compare to. May be a pr, I was pretty consistent throughout, wallballs beat me every time….
Nonetheless it was a great workout.
I think I am somewhere around 930 classes but haven’t looked in a while.
I continue to come because of the people and the atmosphere. I truly love being at CFM and couldn’t imagine anywhere else I would want to do this, or any other people I would want to do this with than CFM. I am grateful for what you have created here, and I am also grateful for you allowing me to be a coach, I love coaching as much as I love working out side by side with all the members. It has been amazing to watch myself, the members and the gym grow and evolve. I can honestly say that I am in the best shape of my life physically and mentally.
My recent job change is actually partly due to CFM, I don’t know if I would have had the confidence to stand up in front of a bunch of students and teach them. But since I mustered up the courage to coach in front of all the great people at CFM, I thought I would be ok to teach.
So thank you Kevin for doing what you do, and giving us this great place to come workout, socialize and relieve stress. CFM is truly a special place!!! ❤️❤️
Happy anniversary big guy to you and the family!!
You’re one of a kind buddy! So happy to have you as part of the family.

I’m glad that the filthy 50’s didn’t stop you from prosueing Crossfit and opening CFM, because you and all the trainers have made everyone there stronger and healthier .
I am getting into the best shape I’ve been in a long time and I notice it in the gym , but mainly outside the gym ,from just getting off the couch I don’t make a grunt or noise anymore ,or playing with my nephews I don’t get winded and usually have enough energy until they get bored of playing and get distracted .
I am excited to see what the future holds for my fitness and quality of life .
Thanks for everything.
Keep up the hard work Derek, you keep improving every time I see you workout.

Happy Anniversary, Kevin! Your passion and drive make CFM what it is and I look forward to hitting 1k classes later this month (hopefully haha) and excited to start my 6th year at CFM at the end of January. I may not look any different then when I started back in 2012 but a lot of things have changed and the biggest is my self confidence of what I can do and have done over the years. I’ve made a lot of memories over the years at CFM (building boxes in Kevin’s garage during my first open, Spartan races and staying at the lovely Valley Inn and Spring Fling competitions are some things I’ll never forget) and also made a few friends along the way that I would be lost without them in my life. Congrats Kevin and Jo to 11 years and I look forward to seeing what the future holds for CFM in the years to come.
Great words Jeff love how you are always willing to step out of your comfort zone.

Congrats Kevin on 11 years of Crossfit. Glad I made the decision to walk through the doors on Rideout Street in September of 2009. I owe so much to CF, I am healthier in my fifties than I was in my twenties and this is all do to Kevin and all the other amazing Trainers I’ve had at CFM. This community helps keep me young, I love the opportunity coaching provides me to share with others my passion for Crossfit. If I have a piece of advice for new members, it’s stick with it, the investment you make in fitness now will pay dividends down the road. Just give it time, listen to your coaches and work hard each time you step through the doors.
Happy to have you as part of the team!

Happy Anniversary Kevin!
Didn’t get a chance to post this on the 4th, I was dealing with all kinds of sickness!
Wod Rx: 22:43
Wasn’t going to do the workout and ended up staying and pushing through illness because well, that’s just true CFM fashion. Grit, determination, and a hint of stubbornness…
I wasn’t fortunate enough to find Crossfit within the walls of CFM, I found Crossfit in 2012 living in NC. And by found I mean, here’s some equipment.. GO. Instantly I was hooked and secretly started doing workouts behind my strength and conditioning coach’s back. Little did they know it would help me become the best version of myself. Shortly after 2012 I found the Crossfit open and because I was working out in a non-affiliate gym I had to find a gym with a judge. Somehow, through connections I’ll never be able to explain, a couple guys from MTA found Kevin Wood at CFM. Kevin opened up his gym, allowed us punks to toss around his weight, and gave us a BIG reality check. Looks can certainly be deceiving, and experience will always trump brute strength.
I knew Crossfit was always something I wanted to do with my life, however I could never figure out how to get into that world. In 2016 Kevin opened up his doors even more and so graciously offered me a position as a trainer. I can honestly say it changed my life, in so many ways. Every day I get to coach classes and I get to workout with the best community and family I could ask for. So thank you Kevin, happy anniversary! I can’t thank you enough for all that you’ve taught me, inside and outside the gym, and all that you’ve done for me. Thanks for taking a chance on some washed up football bum! Here’s to another 11 years!
P.S. Not sure what I’m going to do if you’re still kicking my ass in 11 years..
