Pictures are worth a thousand words. But, because we are over-achievers, there are some extra words and videos. 


When I started at CFM in 2012, I had hit my highest weight ever. I had been a distance runner for many years, and due to an allergy I developed, I had reduced my running, which led to weight gain and the downward spiral of an unhealthy lifestyle. I knew I had to do something, so I contacted Kevin. With focus, I was able to bring that more in line with where I thought I should be.

“I remember waking up one morning, and realizing that getting myself out of bed was hard. I was stiff, sore, and even in a little bit of pain. I then realized that I had been feeling that way most every morning for months, possibly longer. It hit me that, at 28, I should not have felt that way. About the same time, two friends were talking about this fun gym they had joined. “You should give it a try!”, they said. I decided that I wasn’t getting any younger, and I had to do something, so why not? And so, I signed up for the Prep Course. My first workout found me in the same mindset I had every other time I’d tried to exercise, wanting to just give up because it was “too hard”, and I was “too out of shape”. But when the coach simply said “you’re not done yet, keep going”, it hit me – maybe I COULD do it. And so, I did. I finished the workout. I was tired, sore, and had to go one step at a time to get up the stairs at home, but I did it. I knew that this was where I needed to be if I was going to make a change, with people who wouldn’t let me give up just because I doubted myself. I’m may not be the fastest, nor the strongest. I am frequently a sweaty heap on the floor at the end of a workout. But then I pick myself up, and find myself surrounded by other people just like myself, hands ready to high-five me. Now, I wake up and spring out of bed, and excitedly check the WOD, ready to be challenged yet again.”

“I didn’t walk into CrossFit Moncton until I was 49 years old and really overweight.  To say that I should have stuck out like a sore thumb is an understatement and yet the trainers and athletes were welcoming and accepting in ways I would not have predicted.  Through their encouragement, programing and insistence that I could succeed, they took the “can’t” right out of my vocabulary!  And that’s carried over to every area of my life – family, health, work and play – in ways I didn’t even realize I needed.  Along the way I have become stronger, faster and found a better me.  I’ve also lost a boatload of weight.  CrossFit Moncton is for everyone, no experience required.  But one piece of advice before you start – Get a good “before” picture, you’re going to need it!”

One year later, I became a Level One Certified Trainer. I could deadlift 170 pounds. I can run, skip, press, clean and jerk, do pushups, pullups, and situps.
