Family

Last Sunday, we talked about spouses/significant others joining CrossFit together.

What about family members? Right now, we have Marlene and Shallon (mother/daughter) and myself and my mother.

Would you like to have your son/daughter join the gym? What about your parents? Do you think it would be a positive experience?

I can only speak from my experience, but it’s been a great way to spend time with my mom. She’s one of the reasons I push as hard as I do at the gym. I think it has brought us closer together.

Kevin, your Mom is an inspiration to so many in the CrossFit community at large. I was quite new to CrossFit when I first saw her at your Hopper event this past summer. I was not competing that day but watching her ‘work her heart out’ was a highlight of my day and helped cement in my spirit the concept that there really are no excuses for not giving it eveything you’ve got. Joining CrossFit (at 58 and 255 lbs) was a turning point in my life and I continue to be inspired every day by the individuals I meet as well as the ‘esprit du corps’ of the CrossFit community at large. Keep up the good work there in Moncton.

Thank you Kevin. I would never have joined any gym or come as far as I have in the last year without you and your encouragement. Everyone at Crossfit Moncton feels like family after awhile.

I wish my parents would join, they would feel so much better and they would understand my obsession.

It’s true though, Crossfit moncton has a family feel because everyone shares the same hardships. We sweat and bleed together, laugh and cry together(Well, I cry) everyone is always there cheering for each other and I hope it always stays that way 🙂 So I guess my family does do crossfit. 😛

  4. I think my brothers would do really well at CrossFit. I’m not sure if it would be my Mom & Dad’s thing. However, if my Dad joined, everyone would finally see my weirdness as more of a genetic predisposition and not something that I can easily control. 😛

If my parents were around, I pretty sure my dad would have already joined!
In the other hand, I convinced my best friend to join Crossfit Moncton (Steph F.) and in the past 2 weeks I saw her more often than in the previous 6 months!! It is a great way to spend time with people you like!! 🙂

My brother has been by numerous times to help with renovations. Every time he’s in, he tries something. Just recently he knocked off multiple pullups. He’d do very well at CrossFit Fredericton if he wasn’t so busy/cheap.

In other news, all of the Maritime Affiliate owners dropped by today for some discussions. It was very beneficial with regards to the running of the business. I’ll be making some changes to the Fundamentals and maybe some programming.

After the meeting, Pierre and I stuck around for a workout he invented.

    3 rounds:
    500m row
    10 handstand pushups

I would have beat him, but he pretended to kick me on my last rep and I fell over.

I think my sister would like Crossfit….but living on the South Shore of Montreal with no Crossfit gym around her place makes it difficult! As for my parents, I would like them to try it to see what is is all about and see if they would like it, but like my sister, they live to far away….. or I should say, I live far away from them! 🙂

As Kevin said, we had a good meeting today at the gym. Lots of good ideas from the Maritimes gym and I can see some changes coming too!

Kevin and I tackled some weaknesses after the meeting with that great WOD!!

      3 rounds:
      500m row
      10 HSPU

      17:30 (yes, in jeans)

Kevin – you pretended to kick me too on the 8th HSPU so I gave it back to you! 😀

I still have a hard time believing that I can do the HSPU as RX’d now!!!!

Thank you Glen for your kind words. I am glad you are taking care of your health with Crossfit. It is an amazing community.
