Challenge

***Kevin, Pierre, Sonia and Gillyon will be participating in a corporate relay race this Saturday at 1:30pm at U de M (CEPS). If we win, half of the money raised will go to a charity of our choice. There’s a registration fee of $100, so any donations to support us would be greatly appreciated.

Have you ever had a job/task that seemed so big, even impossible, that you wanted to quit? Or not even start it?

When I saw my driveway the other day, filled with heavy, wet snow, I wanted to cry. But I didn’t. Armed with a plastic shovel, I saw it as a challenge. Something to chip away until the task was done.

That’s what Karen is. 150 wall balls. The number is big. And the exercise is torturous. Just like shoveling my driveway. Or piling wood. Digging a trench. Running a marathon.

Chris Gardner,Β in an interview, said “Baby steps count too. As long as you’re moving forward”. Take on Karen one wall ball at a time. As long as you’re moving, you’ll progressing. You’ll eventually get the job done. And when you do, you’ll experience a great feeling of accomplishment!

Ed was joking it was “just” 150 Wall Balls. They were feakin hard! I was 75 in, dizzy, having a hard time squating. I keep thinking what am I doing, why aren’t I still in bed πŸ™‚

Kevin, I need to cancel my 4:15 spot, I have class at 6:30. I timed myself yesterday to see if I would make it in time, aaaaannd no! Unless I don’t shower before class, and that’s just not cool!

Good luck with “Karen” everyone …my legs are soooo sore from yesterday!

    Strength – Cleans: 3 reps of 50-55-60-65-65
WOD: Karen – 150 wall balls (10 lbs)
    Time: 8:58

The last 50 were especially brutal….focusing on a few at a time was the key to finishing this nasty work out.

  7. WU x 3

Front Squat 5-5-5-5-5 / 45-50-55-60-75 (Must get Strength Record Sheet; very bejangled)

    “Karen” – 150 Wall Balls (14#)

Thanks for pushing me to get sub 10 Kevin; otherwise, I don’t think I would have.
    Owen, you were awesome!

    WU x 3

    Strength – Cleans
2-2-2-2-2 (Should have been 1s but I did A LOT of extras to work on technique)
    45-65-75-85-95

WOD = Karen (I checked this morning what the WOD was… I was dreading this all day.)

150 Wall balls (I used the 14lb ball)
    Time = 7:50

I personally was surprised by my time. Wall ball 45 to 85 were the worst! I was like.. “What the hell am I doing here?” I was down to doing 10 at a time. At 85 I did the 15 to get me too 100 and it was suddenly not as bad. I did 2 more sets of 15 to hit 130 and then powered off the last 20 straight. I still think this is my least favourite WOD so far, but it wasn’t as bad as I built it up to be in my mind.

Good work from everyone in the evening crew! We were all sub 10 minutes! Cheers!

Elissa – I wish you the best of luck with your move and your new beginning. I am going to miss you so much. Hope to see some crossfit posts from you. Who is going join me in Jane’s pocket now?

  14. Patrick

    Over Head Squats 1-1-1-1-1
    95-105-115-125-135(pr)

    WOD: “Karen”

Time: 6:57(pr by 51 seconds from 2 weeks ago)

I’m surprised I could do it so much faster only 2 weeks later. Few factors to consider; 1- last time was at 6am this time was at 6:30pm. 2- this time I had a time to beat.
