Vaccine?

Today’s WOD is a short one.

Row 500m for time

Feel free to spend some time working on a goat (something you suck at or something you need to practice)

And now for my rant. Please be informed before making any decisions about the H1N1 vaccine. In schools, kids are being bullied (and parents) to receive the shot. If you choose not to, you must write a letter and get a doctor’s note to defend your reason. Seriously?!

What happened to free choice? Shouldn’t we all have the choice of what we put in our bodies? For a list of ingredients in vaccines, check out this link. You’ll probably be grossed out, and hopefully shocked.

Remember a while back when doctors, researchers and government officials said that smoking didn’t have any side effects? We all know what happened.

Please take a moment to watch some of the links that I’ve posted. Again, it is ultimately your choice. Be informed before making your decision.

A four part series of an exclusive interview with Dr. Sherri Tenpenny, author of “Saying No to Vaccines”. It’s about 40 minutes in length, but VERY informative! Please take the time to watch it before you receive any vaccines.

Pat, I’m on the same page, today was to be my DOR… but screw it, I’d rather have a PR than a DOR any day!! See ya there tonight!! 🙂

  1. I agree 100% with the fact that everyone should be informed before making a decision. Also, everyone should have complete freedom to take the shot or not (without having to fill out forms).

There has been a LOT of talk lately about this whole thing being propaganda and a money racket. Well, sure it’s easy to point fingers because that’s exactly what it looks like. The problem is that even if the threat was real, people would STILL say it’s propaganda we shouldn’t trust the government. It’s a classic case of “Damned if you, or damned if you don’t”.

    Here’s an anecdote written by the one and only Patrick Arseneau;

A man walking down the street comes across and old lady who was selling umbrellas. She says to him, “you should buy an umbrella because you don’t want to get that expensive suit wet”. The man responds “you don’t look like a meteorologist to me and I think you’re just trying to trick me into buying one of your umbrellas” and he walks away. What the man didn’t know was that the old lady watched the weather network all morning and knew there was a good chance of pouring rain. After ruining his $500 suit, the man wished he had taken the old lady’s warning. Will he buy an umbrella every time he sees one for sale in the future? Probably not. But he will definitely check the weather network before leaving the house.

I’m expecting this to spark some differing opinions. I’m already being questioned by many people on Facebook. Which is all good. Nothing like a healthy debate!

There is another side to your story Pat. How many times has the Weather Network been right? Hot and dry summer my ass!!

Kev, thanks for posting all the info on the vaccines. We have to fill out the form for the school by tomorrow and I do not want my kids vaccinated; however, if you have seen the form, you are made to feel that you would be a horrible parent if you choose not to vaccinate. If you answer no to the vaccine, they have a column for you to put the reason. I know I am not the only parent who feels this way as a lot of my friends have called me asking what I am going to do. Peter Ford from Ford’s Apothecary told my good friend that he would not even entertain getting it for our children. Any other opinions, I would love to hear. Oh and Pat I love the umbrella anecdote.

    This just in…

Canada’s chief public health officer, Dr. David Butler-Jones, believes that the H1N1 vaccine is safe and effective.

Found here (http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/cpho-acsp/articles/20080904-eng.php), he also states that “sandwiches are a staple in kids’ lunches, and they can be a very healthy option. Choose whole grain or whole wheat breads” and to follow the Canada Food Guide (the same on that says we need 12 servings of grains a day). If you Zone out the food guide, it’s 44 blocks of carbs and 10 blocks of protein. Sound healthy?

So what does this guy know about health? Is he just telling us what his superiors want him to say? I know I’m digging here, but the people making “informed” decisions sometimes have no idea what they’re talking about.

There are just as many pro’s for getting a vaccine as there con’s. But it depends on your personal view. I believe in our ability to choose based on our own circumstances. Its a very personal thing- I wouldnt want to make someone feel guilty about getting the shot- nor giving it to their kids- and you never know who among us has had a relative die from flu. For the record I dont think the flu shot does a thing.I have never gotten one before and only had the flu once when I was 13 yrs old. But death due to flu happens every year. A pediatrician and immunologist from St John recommended both shots today for kids and young adults. And for the first time this year I will get it and the H1N1 as well, for my own reasons. So here is to freedom of choice!

  12. Kezia

Great discussion on H1N1! We got the brochures today and they are very simple to fill out and really not all that pressuring. No student will be immunized unless this is filled out completely and signed. I suspect many parents will not be immunizing their kids but I will be for myself and my 2 kids after months of no sleep and worry. I trust today’s medical science for personal reasons but am still scared. It does have a spot to check off stating that we have made our own decision with consultation of a health care provider. It also has a place to write reason for not accepting the immunization but it is only enough space for about 10 words. With the amount of kids in school today with asthma and the way they cough, sneeze, drool, pick their noses and don’t take the time to wash their hands I would say that it is probably is the best thing to do. BUT I AM STILL SCARED!

  13. I did this WOD today (2 days late) because I missed it and still needed a 4th workout to complete my week. I managed to break my record by 5 seconds for a time of 1:41. However, I’m really mad at Jamie for beating me after only a few weeks of Crossfit LOL Good Job Jamie!!
