Here’s the scoop

***The Saturday workout will go on as scheduled. Please be at the gym at 10am for a leg burning workout πŸ™‚

The purpose of the CrossFit Level 2 certification is to determine who is the best of the best with regards to trainers. They have high standards that are articulated right from the beginning. They recommend that you take multiple Level 1’s, attend a Kids cert and be a test subject at a Level 2.

I’ve completed all of the above in the last year, but it wasn’t good enough on test day. I didn’t pass by 2 points.

Am I disappointed I didn’t get the piece of paper? Absolutely. But out of the 17 people who took the cert, only 2 attained Level 2 status. I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who didn’t pass.

Although it sucks that I won’t be flying home with a new certificate, what I am happy about is that I now know what I need to work on. And you know what that means? You guys are not going to get a away with shitty movement. I mean NOTHING. During the first day of the cert, the trainers mentioned to me that I have to be more relentless when it comes to attaining good movement from the participants. Once next week rolls around, you’ll see…and feel the difference.

I want to thank everyone for all the positive encouragement they’ve given me. I appreciate it SOOO much! The CrossFit Moncton crew are unlike any other group, with so much support, it’s bursting through the seams. It’s apparent in all your posts, so thank you for making the gym the way it is! I will see you all soon!

You’ll get it next time Kevin! I’m sure you gave your 110%! You’re already a Mean Motherthreeing Coach. I’m scared. If you want to spend another week in Toronto, I’m sure no one would mind! Hee hee hee… πŸ™‚

  2. Gillyon

    yikes…I am scared too.
I already thought you were a relentless stickler of a coach…
I agree with Jane, you will get it next time. πŸ™‚ I am happy that you enjoyed the experience and that you learned lots. See you soon. Safe travels home.

  3. That piece of paper means nothing to us the members. Experience and knowledge is what you’re bringing back to us. I might be a little scared but I’m looking forward to meet the “new” Kevin πŸ™‚

    Kevin,

I’ve noticesd on the board at the gym something about Jane’s record book. It appears as though she’s completly lost it… there must be some sort of ramification for that wouldn’t you say. It’s one thing to forget it, but to completly misplace it…

Looking forward to having you back!

  5. Great job Kevin! I missed it by 4 points but got some great feedback on what I need to improve too.

You guys at CrossFit Moncton are extremely lucky to have such a great instructor. Kevin was certainly in the upper echelon of trainers at the cert.

Thanks Mike. It was great having you around. I thought you did very well at the cert. I’m glad you got some feedback and have something to work towards. I was talking to Paul and there’ll be another on in March. It’ll be the same 15 people that didn’t pass! Hahaha!

Hey coach, you’ll get it next time, sounds as though it was pretty gruelling, though a growth experience none the less… so take the experience as an investment in future success.

Might I suggest that any sadistic thoughts be invested in your own personal growth today rather than deflected upon us members next week… I dunno take the day and see if they’ll letcha run the stairs at the CN Tower for time. πŸ˜‰

Have fun @ the L-1 cert with Mum. We look forward to hearing about the experience upon your return. Cheers!

  7. Lol at Rob’s running the CN. I dare u Kevin. Or go to the Gretsky (I think?) Restaurant and take the cake challenge: finish a 13 layers piece of cake to yourself.

Very cool Kevin! I’m sorry you don’t have with you the certificate…but coming back home with such an experience is priceless. Can’t wait to hear more about it! might rub off on me so I can be relentless.

  8. Kevin

Thanks guys! The experience was definitely worth the trip. I learned so much in the past 48 hours that it would be hard to NOT become a better trainer. One change that I plan to enact when I get back is a fundamentals review class. I had a mini-one for the med ball clean the week before I left, but I’ll have a class where we review each of the series (squats, presses, deadlifts).

One thing I have to change myself is to stop saying the word ‘good’ or ‘perfect’. Movement gets better, but it’s never perfect. There’s always room for improvement (both for myself and you). If you come up on your toes for a squat, I’m going to glue your heels to the floor!

As I mentioned in the post, thank you so much for your support. I may be 1500km away, but I can still feel the love! Can’t wait to get back!

    Kevin,
Good work going for your Level 2. I know all to well the road to attaining it. What you walk away with after the 2 days regardless of testing outcome leaves you a much improved trainer. Being relentless but with empathy is a challenge that comes with time. The fact that you care and continue to work on your craft is what will make you the better trainer. You’re clients don’t care if you have a new certificate, they care that you care which shows by putting yourself out there.
As odd as it may sound, Congratulations on the commitment to being a better trainers

  10. Kevin

Thanks Dave, that means a lot! They actually mentioned you this weekend and how you were relentless in attaining your cert. PEI is lucky to have both you and Mike as trainers. Keep up the great work!

Way to give it your all Kevin,Im quite sure that cert will hold a place on the wall soon, along with many more. Your not short any points in my book.

  12. MC

Good job Kevin. 2 points is pretty close, that’s mean you already a good coach, and that’s going to push you become a better one!! The important is you get out of the experience with something (with the piece of paper or not). I am sure you learned a lot and we are going to ”pay” for it..lol…in a good way obviously!! πŸ™‚
    No fail, no gain!

  13. kezia.stever

Congratulations on all of your successes regardless of the “non concrete” outcome!!! So what if the piece of paper won’t be on the wall. The gift you have for your clients is what matters and the knowledge and growth that comes from learning a bit more is what counts!!! Keep the positive attitude and good luck with implementing your newer skills!

I agree with Gillyion, i thought you were a ‘relentless stickler of a coach’… already. Im excited to be corrected even more in the future. Its awesome to have someone making sure you do everything properly, this prevents unwanted injuries.

We all know your going to get everything you want because you are passionate about what you do. I have no doubt that in time you will get your level 2 and will appreciate it that much more. Really, you only fail when you give up.

    Keep going strong!

    See you tomorrow morning.

Kevin, Suzanne from Neguac was asking me about showing up tomorrow to try out a Saturday workout, I told her to email you/

    1. Kevin

She did email me. There won’t be an intro wod though because neither myself or Pierre is there. I said she could come during the week, or wait until next Saturday. If you’re talking to her, just let her know, k?

  16. Tracey

Kevin we have been very fortunate to learn so much from you already. I have a new confidence in my physical ability that I never pushed to the limit 4 months ago. I look forward to learning and improving. See you soon!

Greetings from Ottawa. Thought I’d check the site to see how the cert went. Kevin, I am really proud of you. I know how much you put into the gym and seeing to it that each one of us succeeds. I feel just like Tracey, I had no idea what I was capable of physically until I joined Crossfit Moncton. I have learned so much about myself and there is so much more that I feel I can accomplish thanks to you and everyone at the gym. Hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving. Kevin, please give your mom a squeeze for me and tell her I think she’s a star. Can’t wait to have her back in the 6am class:)

  18. Meg

Kevin you have done an excellent job so far and we are sooo lucky to have you for a coach πŸ™‚ Hope you enjoy the rest of your time up there and we’ll see you next week!

Also, won’t be able to make the 5:30 workout tonight πŸ™

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

  19. Rob

Sorry for the short notice, I’m unable to make it to the gym tonight… so another 5:15 is up for grabs. Man I’m really going to regret missing the music tonight. πŸ™

Thanks for finding my book Dave. You’re my hero! It’s weird how you knew exactly where it was… :S

  21. Marcel

Kevin how we chose to react to disappointment is far more important than the outcome. It looks as though you are dealing with not attaining the certificate the best way possible — by learning from it and moving forward towards your goal. Congrats on your efforts!

  22. Heather (Mom) Wood

    Hi everyone,
thanks for the encouragement. What wonderful comments about kevin. You are all so very supportive of him and that is what makes Crossfit Moncton so great. Congrats to Pat. Great picture. I have read my 106 page manual and although a bit nervous I am ready to go. I have no doubt that Kevin will get the Cert 2. next time. It does scare me that he is going to get meaner. I can feel the f… word coming more often from me. I am looking forward to getting back to CF Moncton with all you great guys and gals. Gaspe Coast was spectacular.
