Do multivitamins work?

March 29, 2009 25 comments

Vitamins are certainly essential components of the diet and prevent the classic vitamin-deficiency diseases like rickets and scurvy. But some vitamins also have antioxidants properties, which brings up the question of their possible additional benefits.

So should we be taking vitamin supplements?
A pretty simple question to answer, one might think. After all, there have been literally thousands of studies on how vitamin and mineral intakes relate to health. More than 100 million people in North America believe the question has been answered and take a variety of daily supplements to protect themselves against disease, spending some $25 billion in the process. But could they be on the wrong track?

Fallen Hero Workout

March 27, 2009 9 comments

Marc, from CrossFit Oakland, was in to visit us this week. This was part of an email he sent to me:

“Last week the city of Oakland lost 4 police officers in a shootout. On
Sat, CFO will be performing a hero WOD in their honor. CFO had
conducted training for OPD members, including one of the fallen.
Details of the WOD are on the CFO blog, if it’s something you’d like
to consider for Saturday.”

In Canada, we’ve also lost 4 members of our military in Afganistan: Master Cpl. Scott Vernelli, Cpl. Tyler Crooks, Trooper Jack Bouthillier and Trooper Corey Joseph Hayes. Corey was a fellow New Brunswicker.

To honor them, CrossFit Moncton will be doing the following workout.

When I find a good thing, I have to share it with everyone. My massage yesterday was awesome. I went to the MaxHealth Institute in Dieppe for a 1-hour long session. My therapist was Rosalynn, so if you’re able to, ask for her. She worked on my tight muscles in my back and legs, and I felt like rubber when I left. I’ll definitely be going back for another.
